ST. PETER, MN — River’s Edge Hospital opened its new patient wings on June 3, leaving a lot of excess furniture from the former patient wings without a home. The furniture found a new home with the Partners for Affordable Housing.

Partners for Affordable Housing provides a variety of services to support people experiencing homelessness in the Southern Minnesota Region, including Emergency Shelters – Theresa House and Welcome Inn – Mankato, Transitional Housing programs, affordable Permanent Housing options, and our Free Store – we make donations of household goods, food and furniture available to anyone in need to make a home. The latest addition is the St Peter Motel, which will be converted to an additional homeless shelter later this summer. The shelters offer a transitional stay of up to 90 days while receiving case management support with the goal of obtaining income and housing by the end of their stay.

The items donated by River’s Edge, chairs, end tables, artwork, storage bins, sofas, and other items, will be used in the St. Peter shelter, Mankato shelters, and made available in the Partners for Affordable Housing Free Store.

“Much of the furniture that was in the patient rooms is in very good shape and we did not want to simply dispose of it. We are grateful for the Partners for Affordable Housing and the work they do to provide food and housing for those in need. The donation is one way we can help them meet their mission,” said George Rohrich, Chief Executive Officer at River’s Edge Hospital.
