Emergency Care? Urgent Care? How do I know?

WHAT IS CONSIDERED AN EMERGENCY?

A medical emergency is when you believe that your health is in serious danger. You may have a bad injury, sudden illness, or an illness quickly getting much worse.

Medical emergencies include but are not limited to:

  • Chest pain
  • Severe abdominal pain
  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
  • Sudden dizziness, weakness, or loss of coordination or balance
  • Sudden blurred vision
  • Numbness in the face, arm or leg
  • Sudden, severe headache
  • Deep cuts or bleeding that won’t stop
  • Coughing up or vomiting blood
  • Severe burns
  • Seizures
  • Broken bones
  • Severe pain
  • Illness or injuries requiring:
  • Admission to ER by ambulance

Who Provides My Care?
River’s Edge Hospital’s Emergency Department is staffed with well-trained physicians, nurses, paramedics and emergency medical technicians 24 hours a day. Laboratory and Imaging Services are also available 24 hours a day. River’s Edge Hospital also has access to teams of specialists in Mankato, Rochester and the Twin Cities for advanced care.

What is Urgent Care?
River’s Edge Hospital’s Urgent Care provides extended hours for walk-in access for acute illness and injury care that is either beyond the scope or availability of the typical primary care practice or clinic.

Urgent Care services are provided
Monday through Friday
12 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
and on Saturday, Sunday from
8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Urgent Care is for non-emergency medical concerns such as sore throats, ear infections, minor burns, cuts or bruises. More serious injuries or illnesses are treated and billed as an Emergency visit.

Who Provides Urgent Care Services?
River’s Edge Hospital is staffed with well-trained physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and certified medical assistants. Laboratory and Imaging Services are also available 24 hours daily. You will be advised about follow-up procedures and notified about any abnormal lab work or x-rays. With your permission, a complete record of your treatment will be sent to your primary care physician who will provide follow-up care.
